Local plumbing supplier, Green Art, teamed up with others in the community to welcome a United States Marine Corps Corporal and his family into their brand new home. The Long Island native was severely wounded in Afghanistan in 2011 and Building Homes for Heroes facilitated a new house equipped with the accessibility the corporal now needs.
Local businesses such as Green Art, a major Long Island supplier of kitchen and bath fixtures, partnered with the national non-profit Building Homes for Heroes to gift the corporal with a house built from the ground-up in his hometown of Merrick. The team worked together to make his new home accessible, comfortable, and beautiful.
The house is a three-bedroom, two-bath with a modern kitchen and a breathtaking master bath. The enormous walk-in shower features multiple grab bars and seating to cater to the corporal’s needs. A Moen digital spa system, rain shower head, and hand shower with a sliding bar in the rich oil rubbed bronze finish were provided by Green Art, which also supplied the ADA-compliant toilets and faucets found throughout the home.
“We were honored to be a part of such a wonderful project,” says Green Art Marketing Director, Stephanie Kurtzman. “It’s imperative that our veterans are taken care of and we look forward to doing more work with organizations to support them.” Green Art is currently working with Building Homes for Heroes on another house for an injured Marine in Selden, NY.
Founded in 2006, Building Homes for Heroes gifts mortgage-free homes that meet the needs of the men and women who have selflessly served our country. These homes not only help to remove the family’s financial burden, they help to restore the individual’s freedom, and enable the veteran to lead a more independent and productive civilian life.
